  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups finely chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in your dry ingredients alternating with sour cream, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped apples and any nuts you're using.
  7. Pour your batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
