  • 1 small yellow onion (diced)

  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 2 large yellow onions (for crispy topping)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried mustard
  • ½ cup whole milk (room temperature)
  • 4 cups vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine thawed hash browns, melted butter, shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onion, minced garlic, flour, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, chicken broth, and whole milk. Mix well.
  3. Pour the potato mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
