Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small Granny Smith apples
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Peel and core the Granny Smith apples, then slice them thinly for even cooking.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour until it forms a paste, then add both sugars and water. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Press one pastry into a 9-inch pie pan and fill it with the sliced apples.
  4. Roll out the second pastry and cut it into strips for the lattice top. Weave the strips over the apple filling.
  5. Pour the sugar-butter mixture over the lattice and bake for 15 minutes before reducing heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake for an additional 35-45 minutes until apples are tender.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.
